About the Artist
Learn more about Paul Kellett's artistic journey and creative process
I paint connection. My work is inspired by the intricate energy that unites all life. Through vibrant street art motif and abstract expressionism, I explore the balance of opposing forces, capturing raw emotions and diverse perspectives with bold colors, dynamic forms and words of connecting and uplifting resonance. I delve into themes of interdependence, and how chaos and order coexist to create harmony. My paintings embody the power of change and the forces that shape our lives, communities, and the world. The flowing forms suggest that even in uncertainty, deeper connections persist.
Paul Kellett creates images to captivate. He uses a variety of mediums and tools to make paintings that focus on manifestations of bright positive energy, while acknowledging oppositional forces.
Paul was born in Minneapolis in 1963, where he lives and works. Influential to his work were the Bay Area Figurative painters. His abstract paintings convey the activity and transformation of energies through color, form and line. The principle of yin/yang is a priority in his work.
"My paintings are intended to radiate positivity into a space, so that when a person comes near it they can see and feel positive vibrational energy." Paul shows his work in the "Studiopolis" Gallery & Studio in the Northrup King Building. His paintings have garnered numerous awards, and are collected internationally.
"I invite viewers to embrace the complexities of their experiences and foster a greater understanding of our shared journey toward acceptance and unity."

Artistic Process
From Concept to Canvas
Kellett's creative process typically begins with extensive research and preliminary sketches. Drawing inspiration from both historical art movements and contemporary themes, he develops concepts that often evolve significantly during execution.
Each painting undergoes multiple layers and stages, with periods of active work interspersed with contemplative assessment. This methodical approach allows for both deliberate technique and spontaneous expression.
Materials and Techniques
Working primarily with oil on canvas, Kellett incorporates a variety of unconventional materials to create texture and depth. His technique combines traditional glazing methods with contemporary approaches to surface manipulation.
Recent works have explored the integration of digital elements into the preparatory process, though the final execution remains resolutely handcrafted. This balance between technological innovation and manual craftsmanship defines Kellett's unique position in contemporary art.
